CADC is Building Strong Communities

Malvern, Ark. - When communities, families, and businesses work together, neighborhoods can change. That was the outcome of a recent community clean-up effort started by the North Malvern Civic League in Hot Spring County.

Community organizer Juanita Efird started the North Malvern Civic League in response to deterioration in the community. The group connected with CADC community participation staff, who responded with knowledge of resources and assistance in the community. She connected the group to the Keep Arkansas Beautiful campaign, which focuses on reducing waste and litter and beautifying Arkansas’ communities.  The organization donated all the supplies needed for a clean-up event with the local group.

CADC staff provided linkages to voluntary organizations willing to assist in the clean-up effort, connecting with like-minded citizens who caught the vision of community participation. Local businesses were contacted to provide refreshments for participants and local media announced the effort.

Through their efforts, the league organized two clean-up events, collecting over 100 bags of trash and litter. People worked hand-in-hand, canvassing the city to beautify and improve conditions. The group plans on making the clean-up a monthly event.

By partnering with grassroots community organizations, CADC continues to improve the quality of life and build strong communities in Arkansas.
