CADC Head Start/Early Head Start Recognition

Central Arkansas Development Council Early Head Start/Head Start/ABC recently recognized their employees in honor of National Teacher Appreciation Week, which was held on May 7-11, 2018. Educators give us so much. A boost of confidence when we really need one. Extra help when we’re having trouble. A welcoming presence when everything else seems out of control. And though we know we can’t ever thank them enough, we can take a moment during National Teacher Appreciation week to share our appreciation for the special educators in our lives.

Central Arkansas Development Council Early Head Start/Head Start/ABC is a comprehensive child development program, which serves children ages 0-5 years of age, and their families. The overall goal is to increase the social competence of young children of income eligible families. By “social competence”, it is meant the child’s everyday effectiveness in dealing with either his or her present environment and later responsibilities in school and life. Social competence takes into account the relatedness of social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development.

One of the objectives of our program is to provide children with a safe, nurturing, engaging, enjoyable and secure learning environment in order to help them gain the awareness, skills and confidence necessary to succeed in their present environment and to help with later responsibilities in school and life. With this in mind, the educational curriculum was developed to accommodate a variety of children’s needs as well as strengths and to stimulate learning across all domains of development: social, emotional, language and literacy, cognition and perceptual motor, and physical development.

CADC EHS/HS/ABC core curriculum, The Creative Curriculum, along with the supplemental curricula aligns with the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework-Ages Birth to Five and the Arkansas Child Development and Early Learning Standards-Birth though 60 months. Our curricula promotes school readiness, early literacy, and focuses on daily activities that provide opportunity to develop each child’s social skills, physical growth, culturally diverse backgrounds, and feeling of competence, self-esteem, and positive attitude towards learning. Individualization for all children is an integral part of our program. The program is inclusive of children with disabilities. This curriculum recognizes the importance of establishing a partnership with parents and involving them in the curriculum. We respect that parents are the primary teachers of their children.

CADC EHS/HS/ABC takes pride in maintaining a Better Beginnings Level 3 program and having qualified and trained staff. Better Beginnings, a program of the Arkansas Department of Human Services, connects Arkansas families with information and care that helps their children experience as safe, happy, healthy childhood. Better Beginnings is designed to improve the level of quality in childcare and early childhood education programs across the state. Better Beginnings distinguishes the quality of each Arkansas child care facility by 1, 2, and 3-star rating systems. CADC EHS/HS/ABC teachers have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree, with a few of our teaching staff possessing a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education. Our Teacher Assistants have a Child Development Associate, while our Family Service Workers have acquired Family Development Credentials as well as a Child Development Associate.

Services are family-centered, following the tenets that children develop in context of their family and culture and that parents are respected as the primary educators and nurturers of their children. Family members are offered opportunities and support for growth and change, believing that people can identify their own strengths, needs and interests and are capable of finding solutions.
